Biography

Julian is a PhD Candidate in Political Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he is affiliated with the Security Studies Program. His work concerns how and why states create military power by designing their military forces as well how the structure of those forces affects their political behavior. His current doctoral research focuses on how the ability of states to project power internationally affects the terms of the agreements they negotiate with their alliance partners.

Before MIT, Julian was a surety bond underwriter at Chubb Ltd. He holds a B.A. (Cum Laude) in International Relations from Pomona College in Claremont, CA. He was born and raised in Louisville, KY.
